O’Neil Pyke, MD, SFHM, is a practicing hospitalist physician with almost two decades of healthcare management and clinical experience. He is the Chief Medical Officer for Medicus Healthcare Solutions, LLC and is also an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine. Prior to this, he founded and served as CEO for AMP Hospitalist Consulting, LLC and continues to serve as a consultant for various healthcare and management organizations. Additionally, he served as National Director of Hospital Medicine for Keystone Healthcare Management, where he established and developed the hospital medicine service line. In his role as a healthcare consultant, Dr. Pyke has helped numerous institutions establish or improve their intra- hospital workflow, as the various specialities try to navigate the ever-changing healthcare landscape.
Dr. Pyke received a Bachelor of Arts degree from City University of New York, Queens College. He then completed his Doctor of Medicine at The Ohio State University College of Medicine and Public Health after which he did his postdoctoral training in Internal Medicine at Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Pennsylvania State College of Medicine. He is a Diplomate, American Board of Internal Medicine and an active member of Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM), serving on the Practice Management Committee. In 2009, Dr Pyke was a member of SHM’s inaugural class of Fellows in Hospital Medicine followed by induction into the inaugural class of Senior Fellows in Hospital Medicine in 2010.
As the Chief Medical Officer of Medicus Healthcare Solutions, Dr. Pyke has introduced innovative tools and concepts that are now being utilized by many hospitals across the country. Two such examples include “The Principles of Practice for Hospital Medicine” and “Hospitalist Leadership - 10 Imperatives for Effective and Efficient Leaders.” These very important resources, among others, currently function as the basis for standardization of practices and training across a wide spectrum of hospitals. Prior to these appointments, Dr. Pyke served as Medical Director for both hospitalist and Palliative Medicine programs. His primary focus is now helping healthcare organizations improve patient flow and patient experience, by bridging the gap between evidence-based care and communication of the same. This involves guiding providers toward a better understanding of cultural humility in healthcare while leaning on innovative treatment options for patients as they traverse the modern hospital. Dr. Pyke has written broadly about the hospitalist movement and currently serves on the editorial board for Today’s Hospitalist Magazine, in addition to being a regular contributor for various other publications such a The Hospitalist.
