I have been designing state-of-the-art health care systems for the last decade, and have been involved in medical education and risk management throughout my career.

While practicing family medicine in Portland, Oregon, I became site director of that office, and simultaneously earned the highest patient satisfaction scores among my 30 colleagues. Despite this, I became frustrated by the quality of experiences within the medical system. So in search of a better way, I joined two physician-entrepreneurs and their fledgling company called ZOOM+Care. The three of us built ZOOM+Care into the Northwest’s premier urgent and primary care practice.

At ZOOM+Care, I designed a novel training and supervisory system that enabled broad scale without sacrificing quality. This enabled the company to grow to over 50 neighborhood clinics including specialty and emergency services. I recruited, trained, mentored, and lead over 100 clinicians including primary care and specialist physicians, PAs and FNPs to practice in our innovative model. Since ZOOM+Care’s inception, I served as our medical-legal liaison. In this role, I interfaced with our liability carrier and was the manager of all clinical quality issues, legal cases, insurance claims, and customer service complaints involving medical care.

In 2015, after 9 years building ZOOM+Care, I took on the role as the first chief medical information officer for Steward Health Care, a network of 10 community hospitals throughout Massachusetts. I simultaneously became an adjunct faculty of Tufts University School of Medicine.

After one and a half years working at Steward, I returned to ZOOM+Care working remotely as the VP of Education and Clinical Systems. In 2017, I moved back to Portland and took on the role of Medical Director of Specialty Services where I cared for patients as well. I also served as the chair of our Quality Workgroup.
My wife and I spend our time learning and laughing with our six children: two sets of boy-girl twins — 1 year and 5 years old, and two sons who are 12 and 15.
